Microsoft KIN

While living in Seattle I was blessed to be a part of the small Microsoft crew that designed and developed Microsoft’s first Social Media Device, the Microsoft KIN. I was one of only a few people on the team that created the interface, helped with some of the interactions on the device and also helped with the user experience.

I was one of the early UI Designers on the team so I have tons of conceptual work that never went into the final product. The Microsoft division that was responsible for the production of the KIN was the Pioneer Studios group, a part of Microsoft PMX and Mobile team.

Other team members included Mike Kruzeniski, Joseph McLaughlin, Jared Frew, Patrick Corrigan and Ryan Murphy.

Due to a non-disclosure agreement I cannot show any of the concept work at this time.

Concept: Xbox Reimagined

This project was heavily inspired by the recent Microsoft Rebrand Concept by Andrew Kim (minimallyminimal.com). After seeing his logo designs and thought process I decided to build on Andrew’s concepts and apply them to what I thought the Xbox brand could look like.

This project is not affiliated with Microsoft and is merely a concept design project that I created on my own time.

I am currently working on a redesign of the Xbox Homescreen. More to come on that soon.

Redclay User Experience and UI Design

Redclay reached out to me, after I had spoken at a TechFest event, to help consult with their User Experience & User Interface Design. We spent over 3 months fine tuning and redesigning their user experience along with their overall web design. My process consisted of 1) Creating a new Sitemap, 2) overhauling the overall information architecture of their product, 3) wireframing the entire user experience and flow, and finally 4) redesigning the user interface.

Microsoft Hardware: Ambient Lighting Display Laptop

While living in Seattle and working for TEAGUE, I was tasked with conceptualizing what the interactions would look like for the ambient lighting on an experimental laptop. I conceptualized the lighting scenarios, mapped them out, and created a presentation that explained each lighting scenario.

Design Exploration: Microsoft Zune

This was a design exploration for reducing button hardware on the Microsoft Zune Device. I planned out the scenarios, explained what each gesture or button click would do while within the UI. I also put together a prototype using Adobe Flash to walk the stakeholder through each scenario of a user actually using the device.

Blizzard Entertainment

While working at Perks.com, I was tasked with creating a visual design for Blizzard Entertainment’s Employee Incentive & Rewards Program. The requirement was to start within Blizzard’s already established style and add my creative & visual flare to the features that we offer through our application.

This was presented to Blizzard Entertainment’s HR Department.

MOD Systems

This was a project for MOD Systems while I was working at TEAGUE in Seattle. MOD Systems’ product is a digital download kiosk that was in brick and mortar stores around the nation. Consumers could search, buy and download music and movies to their digital devices such as a Zune or an iPod.

I was the lead project UI and Interaction designer on the project. I also managed an intern designer.

There were a lot of whiteboarding, wireframing and prototyping that went into this product before the design process started for the User Interface.
